Type Genuine NISSAN Matic J ATF
NOTE: Use only Genuine NISSAN Matic J ATF . Using transmission fluid other than Genuine NISSAN Matic J ATF will damage the automatic transmission, which is not covered by the NISSAN new vehicle limited warranty.


Amsoil makes trans fluid that exceeds Nissan Matic "J" also.


09' and newer pathfinders are factory filled with Nissan Matic "S" but factory service manual says that Matic "J" will also work when "S" is not available.

I know it is matic J ATF according to manual but what is the required volume . The manual contains specification of fluid but not volume.

11 qts is total fill, not sure how many for an initial fill...probablt so,ewhere in the 4 qt range

Gotta do my tranny fluid change soon. What's the best way? Never did one and can't even check the fluid level - bolted down.

Also could use help on how to change fluid in transfer case, and what fluid.

I believe it was 12 for the full flush. Our pathfinder didn't have a screen filter unless you want to take of the valve bodies I think ask tech. But as for the other fluids have you tried looking into yup service manual? And where are you stationed if you don't mind me asking?

Found fluid type, but no "how to". Never have done a tranny or transfer case fluid change. But $ is tight, so gotta try. Just need to know how/best way.

Oh okay. The easiest way that I have heard is to use the lines that you bypassed the tranny radiator cooler with if you know which one it's theoutlet. I think if you look up "tranny flush" you should see a post that I started that contains a link to a walk through.

matic J was superceded by matic S. Matic S is all that's available now

i bought a case of j matic off of amazon(best price i could find). i was going to unhook the line for the tranny cooler at the radiator. then hook a bit of hose to the end of that line and run it down into a bucket or whatever to catch the old fluid. then thread a barb into the radiator fitting hook another hose to that one and drop it into the new jmatic fluid. this way you can use the transmission to pump out the old fluid and suck in the new. once the fluid coming out of the tranny is the same color as the new stuff going in you know your good!

i usually tie a rock or something to the end of the discharge tube. some of the transmissions i have done over the years put out fire hose like pressure at idle lol.

i have not done this on the pathfinder yet but i sure have done it on countless other trucks. ill have to get it done before the 6000 mile drive home for the holidays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
