05, on accelerting, feels like vibration

Postby mtbpath » Mon Dec 05, 2011 10:18 pm

I just got the car back after the secondary chain tensioners were replaced correcting the whining sound I reported. that is all good now.
but now I discovered something new.
from idle to 2000 prm's, if I keep it there the acceleration feels like a slight vibration or pulse stating feel. *added* the vibration can also be felt while parked and rev'd bewteen idle to 2000 rpm.
anything above that is fine such as freeway speeds. does not feel like it will stall or lacking power.
just at the steady 2000 prm range you can feel a slight hesitation.
again I will be taking the car back to dealer and have them figure it out.
I went the next day after getting the car back and had one of their tech drive it with me because I wanted them to admit something was wrong.
anyways, the tech said it felt more like not shifting into next gear.
I was thinking more engine related but was hoping it wasn't transmission.
maybe this is where the transmission failure occurs.
I checked the radiator to see if I see trans fluid, none.
just wanted to throw this out there, I will have more results when dealer diagnosis it.

I don't think it's your tranny if your experiencing the vibration while in park....

I also noticed a vibration when I got my car back after having the secondary timing tensioners replaced. It was a loose harmonic balancer. The tech apparantly forgot to properly tighten it when putting everything back together :x This is why I avoid the dealer unless absolutely neccessary for warranty work.

Vibration in park would probably point to engine misfire or bad engine / transmission mounts.

dealer could not find the problem. they do confirm that there is vibration between idle and up to 2000prm.
vibration is felt in parked and also while driving.
They think it can be exhaust. I do have an aftermarket exhaust but swear this vibration was never felt prior to the last major service which was the timing chain shoe replacement.
I'll just keep driving it until it craps out on me.
oh well.

coolant/trans oil contamination may be difficult to detect in the radiator
is your internal trans cooler by-passed?
if not, then you should take a sample of trans oil from the internal cooler & inspect it
if it's OK, then do the by-pass
if it's not OK, then you have likely found your problem
let us know.........

Check out this TSB: NTB05-015b

2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER, FRONTIER; RATTLE NOISE FROM VIAS POWER VALVE ACTUATOR / INTAKE MANIFOLD COLLECTOR
There is a rattle noise coming from the Variable Induction Air Control System (VIAS) Power Valve Actuator /
Intake Manifold Collector at engine speeds around 2,200 RPM.

PM me your email and I can send you a PDF of this TSB. It seems to be more of an annoyance than a serious problem.
