What motors and transmissions are you running

Postby Gumby » Fri Jan 06, 2012 4:30 am

Somewhat confused by all this. My 2.5 litre diesel 2007 R51 has now clocked just shy of 177,000kms and is running the original transmission and motor. In Australia Nissan has the reputation for having unbreakable drivetrains and suspensions and Toyota have the best motors.

Sorry to hear of your grief. What is the issue with contamination?

The issue is the radiator - the section inside the main radiator that the transmission fluid flows thru corrodes or breaks and cross contamination between the radiator and tranny occurs. The radiator fluid then kills the tranny. At first Nissan would say the radiator failed only, and that the tranny failing was a non-covered byproduct of the contamination. Luckily they've since helped some by extending the warranty to the tranny to 100K miles or 84 months (I think). But that's too late for some, or others already passed the miles.

Many have done the radiator bypass - the easiest method is to just move the 2 hoses coming from the radiator (search "radiator bypass" and you'll find much info on it).

80K miles and 84 months is the warranty extension.

Like to get one of those Aussie nissans up here in the states. Everything up here is lowest bidder wins the contract which equals junk in most cases.

Got pathfinder back and wow what a difference! We had been driving it broke like this since 64k miles and it now has 76k on it. Shifting is as smooth as the new 2012 altima they gave us to drive while pathy was in the shop. Great experience through this whole thing, even asked for some oil plug crush washers and they gave me those N/C. I feel for the guys who's path is over the 80k mark but the service writer was telling me that they have been fixing peoples at the 100k mark, nissan paid for tranny and customer pay for labor.

Hopefully this thing will give us many miles of trouble free service from here on out. Fingers crossed.

Allright, another winner. Good for you and good for Nissan for taking care of your problem. ENJOY your new transmission.

Glad it's all working properly now, and that you can enjoy your pathfinder for many trips and miles to come. :D

Check out my post in this same section that explains my recent experience with this same issue. Hopefully it can help someone out there who ISN'T covered under warranty.

I'm glad it worked out for you. You rarely hear of success stories on things like this.

The fuel sender, transmission/radiator, and cat problems are well know to happen after the warranty has lapsed and Nissan won't do squat about it except extend the warranty a few thousand miles. They know these are defective parts yet they maliciously cover their ass. I've made it to 120k and have only had the fuel sender and cat problems so hopefully I'm OK on the transmission. I'm going to do the bypass anyway to be safe.
