What radiator would you reccomend to replace Stock unit?

Postby alloutz79 » Tue Apr 17, 2012 7:27 pm

I'm at about 73k on my 06 Pathfinder LE and I'm getting nervous!

I haven't done the bypass or purchased http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-70268/ yet either.....

but I wanted to replace the radiator, so what do you suggest?

i've talked to a few dealerships and they don't recommend a NISSAN rad....

Please discuss..........Thank you :)

Wait Wait... I gather your radiator is fine and their is NO coolant mixing going on in the trans?? If so, instead of spending $500+ why wouldn't you just spend LESS than $100 on a bypass trans cooler? You can literally install them in 10 minutes.

Do you do a lot of heavy or mountainous towing?

if there is nothing mixing in your transmission then just do the bypass, theres no need to replace unless you are having problems.

i decided to get an aftermarket radiator from an Ebay vendor for my 2006 LE. My coolant is due for service, anyway, and I prefer to have the cooler intact and working as it was intended to do, just don't want to push my luck on my original radiator w/ 92000 miles. There are several available on Ebay for under $100. Some have a single core with a 1-1/4" core depth and some have a 2-row core with a 1-1/8" core depth. I chose a 2-core rad with a lifetime warranty and free shipping for $93. I'll probably replace the thermostat with a genuine Nissan 'stat while I'm in there. It's cheap insurance, IMO.

I considered that one, but couldn't find the warranty info listed. So, I went with this one, from Parts Express:

I just ordered it, so I'll have to update as far as fitment once I get it and install it.

If I was to buy a radiator, I'd probably look into this unit. Lifetime warranty and I've seen good stuff from spectra. I like the description about transmission coolers. They must know about the Nissan problem.

Half price...but still costs 50% more than the one I got off Ebay. Might not be a Spectra, but chances are their radiator is made in some third world country, as well, and isn't any better than the one I picked up...which also has a lifetime warranty.

I stand corrected: Spectra Premium radiators are made in Canada with a 2-year warranty.

http://www.spectrapremium.com/products/radiators.html

Still, I'll take my chances with what I got. $75 cheaper and a lifetime warranty (which I know doesn't mean a part is necessarily well built) and appears to be well built. I still feel a lot more confident in that than the original Nissan radiator in my 2006 which now has 97300 miles on it and, thankfully, no signs of coolant/ATF mix...yet. I'm not going to press my luck!

I try to read reviews on everything before I purchase them, and spectra had some very mixed reviews, so I'm now mixed on what to get! I still have no idea what to purchase! AHH this shit drives me cray! LOL
