MAF cleaning

Postby asgard » Sat Oct 27, 2012 12:33 pm

I set off today with the expectation of cleaning the MAF sensor. however when I removed the air cleaner box and short pipe I was confronted with a small silver cartridge item, not what I was expecting.
So I saw a little dust on the cover that was all.
Can you clean these with MAF cleaner? and if so do you need to remove the unit from the intake.
Is there any resetting of idle or anything after cleaning. I had a problem resetting the idle after I did the throttle body and Seafoam via the vacuum pipe. Just turned 66000 kms - 07LE

You can clean it, carefully, with mas cleaner or electronics cleaner. You may have to perform an idle air volume relearn, but that's unlikely.

thanks for the answer.

So, do you remove the unit from the air intake and spray the surfaces with MAF cleaner or is there a slot or area that you need to spray into.

If you take a good look at it, there's a small window where you can see the hotwire of the MAS. It's the threadlike hotwire that senses the air passing through and is the only part that needs to be clean. It's fragile, so use care when cleaning it.
