horrible gas mileage in city

Postby mc01ta » Fri Nov 09, 2012 6:11 pm

My 07' is reading 8-10 mpg from a dead stop to 40 mph without taking speedometer past 2000rpm. Average 18-20 highway. Has anybody noticed the hortific gas mileage from a basic stop and go. I bought new and at 74k . Never paid attention to it until past few months. Normal?

Accelerating under any condition will quickly drop to the levels you're reporting. I think that's perfectly normal (on most any vehicle). I personally don't see a huge difference between accelerating briskly and slowly. I've also noticed fuel burn when pulling hills is not always better in a higher gear...it seems downshifting and then using less throttle returns similar results. I'm still impressed with the combination of performance and economy. I average 18-19mpg on my typical commute and can get 21-22mpg on long highway trips. Luckily I do very little around town driving.

Yup, I average 9mpg in city driving. It's why I prefer my Civic when driving around town (I get 24mpg city).
