High RPM's going down big hills

Postby outoforder » Thu Dec 20, 2012 11:29 am

05 SE
I noticed recently on a trip to PA that when I'm going down a big hill (mountain) the engine seems to rev abnormally high. It's stays up around 3 K. The RPM's don't go back down until I hit level road...Normal? I have no hill descent assist or whatever some of the off-road pfinders have.

Hill Decent Assist actually uses the brakes to control your speed for off-roading. Entirely separate from that, the Pathfinder will downshift automatically to help keep you from unintentionally over-speeding on downhill slopes.

It's normal, especially if you've touched the brakes going down the hill.
