Got a PF this week not sure about Transmission

Postby Tolahouse » Sat Mar 02, 2013 8:58 pm

I got a 2007 LE PF with 91,000 miles on it this week. Reason I got it was that it had the new radiator in it, transmission fluid was good and it seemed to drive alright. So I reckon all the radiator/transmission issue were sorted.
Five days later I have noticed a soft jolt/kick from the rear when I back off the gas when cruising at about 30-40mph. Also at around 50mph there is a vibration when cruising in a lower gear just before you give it gas to kick it into the next gear.

What advice can you guys give to a new Pathfinder owner. Am I screwed?

Not sure i'd get too worked up over that just yet. Might be a u-joint as well.

are you screwed?
hard to say........
your symptoms are those of a transmission with the coolant-contamination problem
it's certainly possible that the radiator may have failed and been replaced, along with the related fluids, but the transmission damage is now surfacing

I would still check the U-joints first.

Good news. The issues were all in my head, well not totally.there is some vibration but nothing out of place for a truck with 91,000 miles on it.
I took the car to a local Nissan dealership and asked for a warranty repair report, it tuns out that the radiator and transmission had been replaced last April at 73,000 miles.
The u-joint and drive shafts also checked out ok. The car passed all checks and no negative codes were pulled.

Now to put a grille guard and Dually D2 fogs on it.

Thank you so much guys - found out I'm not screwed.

Glad it checked out okay.

Mine does all of the things you described and checked out okay, too. I could be wrong but I feel like there's a TSB out there about the jolting between 30-60 MPH. Something about a software update?

And that low-gear-vibration drives me nuts on my Pathy, too. My wife's Jetta does the same thing.

There was a software update for a condition where when cruising at a speed around 25-40 mph or so and lightly stepping on the accellerator, there would be a noticeable 'clunk' or 'jolt.' This TSB was only for 2008 model year Pathfinders, Xterras and Frontiers with the 4.0L and AT.
