Postby indexply » Wed Nov 06, 2013 5:10 am

Hello all need some help I have a 2005 Pathfinder and out of the clear blue after towing my empty 8x12 trailer. I started the next day and the dash lit up like xmas. Brakes ABS VDC Off Slip all on and the service engine soon....straight to Autozone for a OBD reading along the way the speed odometer is not working all. Reading found 7 codes 4x P0500, P1212, P1574 & U1001. Does anyone know how to locate and test the speed sensor?

The vehicle uses the wheel speed sensors for the ABS system to determine vehicle speed. Nissan did put out a service bulletin regarding bad grounds causing CAN communication (U1001) and multiple DTC's. I had issues with mine. It shows all of the ground points and instructs you to clean them. There are a few in the engine compartment that are not too bad to get to and some behind the dash that are a real pain. The problem occurred in multiple Nissan models of the mid-2000's and you will need your freeze frame data to see if your vehicle's problem is addressed by this issue. Can't remember the TSB #, but you can probably find it in the knowledge base at NissanHelp.com using keyword: U1001.

Thanks smj99smj! FYI... I found the Nissan Publication http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/TSB/TSB_ ... sbType=TSB I had to register for a free account. This is what it said.

Summary of NTB10145:
SERVICE INFORMATION When diagnosing a vehicle with an ABS or VDC / SLIP warning light on with DTCs stored in the ABS / VDC actuator control unit, perform DTC diagnosis first. - Do not replace the ABS / VDC actuator control unit without being supportedby the DTC diagnosis. - Do not erase DTCs before performing DTC diagnosis. - Always fully diagnose before performing any repairs. When DTC U1000 (CAN COMM CIRCUIT) is the only DTC stored in the ABS / VDC actuator control unit, use the REPAIR FLOW CHART starting on Page 2. This will assist in proper diagnosis results and repairs in addition to using diagnostic information in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM). - If DTC U1000 is found stored in other systems, refer to NTB10-066 and the applicable ESM. - If other DTCs are found stored in ABS / VDC along with U1000, follow the diagnosis steps for those DTCs in the applicable ESM. See this bulletin for further detail.

Just to update all... I took the vehicle to the local dealership on Thursday I got a call this Monday @ 5:30pm to tell me they have finally found the problem. HOLD tight.... ABS Control module needed 1,800.00 plus three days for part to come in. The part alone is 1,350.00 alone. Now that I have created another bald spot in my head from scratching. I am going to look into this bulletin. Any help or suggestions?

The TSB I was referring to is NTB06-009. You can probably find it in pdf format at NissanHelp.com in their knowledge base.
