Valve adjustments?

Maybe I missed that reading through the service manual but are there any periodic valve adjustments needed for the VQ40 engine?

The valves are a shim style. Somewhere in the owner's manual it says to check only if they make noise. I've never heard of anyone needing a valve adjustment in a VQ. My Maxima has 145k and has never had them checked.

Cheers 08Datsun, with shim type spacers would one need to replace those due to rod wear after extended use or other. Where I'm going with the question is: in your opinion could a VQ40 engine be run up to 500,000 miles using good lube oils, regular oil changes and a few minimal adjustments or replacements. Thanks.

I sure with your attention to oil and analysis, you'd be the one to make to 500k.

I've been told that the adjustment is likely life of the engine. However, I've discussed these valves with my mechanic and if an adjustment is needed, it likely would be costly.
