2007 LE Alternator not chargin

Postby turbo50jeff » Tue Oct 27, 2015 6:14 am

My path sat for a month and when I started it, it barely cranked but started. It ran for about a minute then died and every light on the dash is on when it was running. I charged the battery with a Schumacher charger overnight and it starts but all lights on the dash are still on.
When I put the charger into the alternator testing mode it reads 0.
I took both terminals off and scrubbed and cleaned them really well (they were dirty) but it did not help.
I checked all the fusible links on the back side of the positive terminal and they are all good.
My friend works as a service tech at a local dealer and said they almost NEVER see a bad alternator. Not that it doesn't happen but very rare.

Anyone have any ideas b 4 I order a new one?

Sounds like a bad alternator but just to make sure the ground on the battery gets real loose(their connection are horrible) as a quick fix I flipped it upside down to get it to clamp onto the post better.

how old is the battery?
i would not trust a battery charger to test my alternator condition
make sure the battery is fully charged (and load tested to verify that), then check your charging systems' output voltage with a real voltmeter
it's not likely that your alternator failed from sitting for a month
it's more likely battery and/or cable & terminal post related
keep it simple, as these problems rarely go beyond that :)
