Battery Terminal Corrosion

Postby cgray » Sat May 05, 2012 7:09 pm

Just an FYI, my Pathfinder failed to start up for me the other day. Turned out that the positive terminal connector had corroded so much that it wasn't making enough contact with the battery anymore.

For anyone with an older R51 it might be worth checking the condition of the battery terminals to make sure you don't have the same thing going on. I tried replacing the terminal with one from AutoZone, but it didn't fit right. I ended up getting a new Nissan terminal connector from the dealer for $12.

These terminals tend to stretch over time. Maybe a function of heat, or poor design. Nevertheless, this is a common issue on more import vehicles I have owned.

I used a nail, shoved beside the battery terminal inside the connector to allow the terminal to tighten enough to get a good connection. Been that way for about 3 years now. Cost? $0. :)
