Lower Radiator Mount Squeak Found

Postby kevinthefro » Sun Jan 26, 2014 8:30 pm

I've had my 2010 for 5 months and it has been squeaking the whole time. This noise matched the descriptions of the hood squeak, but that wasn't it. Then I checked the left front body mount but that wasn't it either. I narrowed it to the radiator so I took off the Lower Engine Cover (aka skid plate) and found one of the bumper cover screws was contacting the lower radiator mount.

The contact point is a shiny spot surrounded by rust, directly above the screw hole for the bumper cover.

Lower engine cover off the car, with the screw in place.

Up close, you can see the tip worn flat.

Using a shorter screw would have been the easy way out, but I couldn't cope with the thought that someday a stock screw would be put back in. I cut the corner off the bracket with a Dremel.
