Liftgate Button Pushed In!

Postby The Flying Turkey » Fri Aug 17, 2018 8:48 am

The liftgate “intelligent key systemâ€â€™, “liftgate request switch†(you know the little button you press to lock and unlock) pushed all the way into the chrome trim. I disassembled it and found the metal bracket that holds it in place is rusted out and bent. So I did a forum search couldn’t find any info. Did a Google search and can’t find the part. Anyone know what the part number is?

We have a 2001 Silver Edition Pathfinder with the same problem, also cannot find a diagram or a part number for this switch, the metal bracket completely rusted away. I just bought a used lift gate trim piece with the switch in place (on-line), will let you know if there is a part number.

I actually just fabricated a new mounting bracket. I used an old license plate, cut it to the same size, drilled a couple of holes and mounted it in place. Worked like a charm and it's aluminum so it wont rust out again. Pain in the ass to do, but I probably saved a couple hundred bucks.

The tailgate switch for models with Intelligent Key is # 25210-ZS00A and for models without Intelligent Key is # 25380-ED000. See link below, part codes "25381+A" and "25381":

Good afternoon. I'm a 2012, new-to-me, Nissan Pathfinder owner. Same issue on the button. Solution sounds workable. Just need some advise on getting at it. Is the chrome trim piece one that pops off or do I have to at it from the inside of the vehicle? Thanks, Tim

The rear chrome hatch piece - You have to open it from inside the panel. It's held with 4x 10mm nuts (if I recall). You will need a ratchet or a longer socket to get at it. The inner door trim piece comes off with some logic.

Just be careful with those nuts - it could be a tad rusty in and around them, with some corrosion. Don't use too much force or you could wind up stripping.

Removal worked out well. 4 nuts on long posts as described. Bracket completely rusted away. Cracked/dry gasket. I'll manufacture a new bracket and fix the gasket leak with some silicone. Thanks!
