Another DIY cargo cover

Postby pghpath » Thu Mar 06, 2014 10:42 am

Just got a 2012 Pathfinder and couldn't believe I couldn't get a cargo cover for it. Appreciated the DIY cover posts in here and thought I'd post my quick and easy cargo cover as another route to go. I didn't want to permanently mount anything into the moldings, and wanted to keep the X cargo cover with that car. So... I got a car clothes rack bar - adjustable width and has extensions on either end that fit into the 2nd row seatbelt feeders plus metal rings that I could use to further steady it. Looped a cheap curtain around and over a small cafe curtain rod that fits into the slots close to the back gate.

Velcro strips placed for 2nd row and 3rd row depths make it adjustable and hold reasonably well.

Cost me about $40 for materials and took about 15 minutes to put it all together. While it's not retractable, it is easy to pop in and out and I can roll it up onto the clothes rack bar if needed. I also had an extra shower tension rod around the house and stuck that in th emiddle so it sags less and stuff I shove in under it is less likely to snag and tug at it.

Maybe it'll last long enough for Nissan to make a proper one.

Nice job! Would you happen to have any links to the items you purchased to make this happen? I've given up on the concept myself, but I'm sure it would be useful to others.

Thanks for the suggestion - glad to include the info on the specific ones I used, though I'm sure pretty much any similar ones would work fine. Mine were from Target.

Clothes rack bar (mounted closest to back of 2nd row of seats):

Curtain (chose on that matched interior): http://www.target.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... A-13976200

Small curtain rod for slot by the back gate (I didn't see a link for the brown one I got, but they had more variety in the store than online. I got the 36-60" one, pop caps off either end): http://www.target.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... A-11163925
