R51 heater core 2008 LE leaking/smells!

My 2008 LE V-6 is needing a new heater core, anyone ever replaced on this bodystyle? Is there a service manual online regarding replacement? I'm guessing the majority of the dash will have to be removed. Any advice? Yes, I'm getting coolant smell in the cabin, and yes now Im getting a fog on the inside windshield!

This is a pretty big job. The entire dash has to be removed from the vehicle, which includes evacuating the freon from the A/C system and recharging it later and removing the steering column. You'll likely need a scantool to relearn the steering wheel position sensor. There are a number of downloadable service manuals on the internet. You can also use Autozone's free repair guides if you register an e-mail. They don't have the 2008 model, but they do have it for 2005, which is pretty much the same procedure.

Ok, so there's an electronics factor I have to tackle too. I might know someone with a high end scan-tool. Or, I might just find her a new home and call it good! LOL. Local nissan dealer quoted $1100-1200 to do the job. (includes evac & recharge)

I know its a heat exchanger, and they will all fail eventually, but do you have any indication as to why this part had a failure?

I would be interested in any pictures you can get of the failed part once available.

When I get ready to do the job I will take some photos. Not leaking bad enough to do right now.
