warm day, warm (not hot) engine, tape around seams in electrical boxes, gentle cleaner/degreaser such as Simple Green, garden hose (warm water, no nozzle or high pressure), steer away from electrical components as much as possible, rinse well, drive truck right away in order to warm up & evaporate any residual moisture

Don't do it with a hot engine. Many parts don't really take kindly to the rapid temp change of cold water.

Cold engine, squirt in a bottle or two of Simple Green Max, give it a scrub with a $1 toilet brush if it's really disgusting, then hose off.
Avoid electrical plugs if you can.
