Electric Impact Drivers -- anyone ever use one?

Postby DanJetta » Fri Nov 01, 2013 9:41 am

I saw these on the shelf in Pep Boys and was thinking about getting one. Anyone have one and like/hate it? I love the idea of not having to drag my compressor around.

Since I'm fixing something on this truck every weekend, I thought the driver might be a good investment. Until I push the truck off of a cliff, anyway.

I have a cordless one that pretty much sucks, I have a corded Milwaukee one and I love it. It isnt as strong as air tools, but almost always gets the job done.

Years ago I used to use a corded 1/2" impact gun. I think it was a Black & Decker and put out 240 ft./lbs. It was big and heavy, but was useful at times. Guy at work has a Snap-On 3/8" cordless impact gun and he loves it, but paid a good piece of change for it.

I've never found one that was worth keeping. Tried several.

i have a 18v milwaukee: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M1 ... /203393911

for working on my wrangler (even suspension parts) it works -great-.

however i'm not sure that it would work that great on my pathfinder suspension parts (like getting shocks/struts on and off, disconnecting swaybars is fine). i just remember when i changed out my shocks and a regular air impact driver was having trouble getting the bolts started off.

so, for 'general' things with the pathy, i love my impact driver. but if it's torqued/seized on pretty good i'd go with air tools.
