Tool for removing windshields?

Postby KEVSTER » Wed Apr 29, 2009 5:51 pm

Has anyone seen the tool used to cut the glass out from the inside of vehicle? how does it not cut the A-pillar plastic, and roof liner.

I haven't ever seen that but I was pretty sure you can't do it from the inside because of the flange that the glass and sealant sit on. The only method I know if is cutting the seal/adhesive from the outside of the car and then pushing out from the inside.

You have a picture or a link to this tool?

The tool is very thin at the end. It is designed to slip between the small gap between the glass and the A-pilar plastic and roof liner and cut the sealant. I've had 2 windshields replaced on a previously owned Civic and one on my Accord. I've never had any problem with damage from the tool. The main area that I have noticed some installers do better than others is the exterior seal. They usually reuse the one you have so long as it is in good shape. I've noticed some installers get it nice and flush just like it was never removed. I've seen some that are less than perfect and look a little sloppy.
