08 Pathfinder LE V8 Brakes

Postby goodmatt78 » Wed Jun 10, 2009 12:09 pm

I have 23K miles and my brakes are shuttering pretty bad. I do tow a race trailer, so I am not too suprised by the mileage.

I was at the dealer today for my oil change and tried to get the brakes covered by warranty. After inspection, they said they would warranty the rotors (normally $100 each) but I still owed $290 for pads and labor.

I am looking online for prices to do it myself. Holy crap rotors are $$$$. Anyone have experience with aftermarket rotors or prefer a brand? I found a brand called Centric for $65 each.

Anyone know where else I can look online for better pricing/quality?

Is it possible to have the rotors resurfaced?

Will the dealer give you the rotors under warranty if you just want the parts only so you can put them on yourself?

Just curious, do you have brakes on your trailer? How much wieght are you towing?

I didn't get that far with the dealer. My trailer loaded (bike trailer) is around 2400lbs. I do not have trailer brakes.

the backside of the rotors have about a 1/4+ inch ring of corrosion were the bads aren't even contacting the rotor. Im my experience, resurfacing is a short term fix.

EBC AND POWERSLOT are good rotors. Stay away from Ebay rotors of non name brand. Rotors with holes will eventually crack. use slotted only. step up to better pads also. like ceramics.

What are the requirements for getting rotors replaced under warranty?

Going in for my first brake job at 30k miles and rotors are warped badly.

I just did Centrics and Akebono PRO ACT pads on the front of my '06 SE .... Very happy so far ... better braking and the Centric Premium rotors are rally good quality ... We use them at work all the time and have never had any issues ...

I would NOT recommend resurfacing ... That will only make them thinner and warp more quickly ...esp. towing a trailer .!!!
