Gear Oil for 2006 Pathfinder 4x4

Postby 423pathy06 » Fri Jun 26, 2009 5:27 am

Hello all,
I have a 2006 Pathfinder 4x4 and its due for some fluid changes. Do the differentials in R51's require any special type of gear lube with respect to the limited slip diff?

Seems like I have read somewhere that some limited slip diffs require an additional additive to be put in with the gear oil? Is that the case with our R51's?

I have been looking at Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 for the rear diff. Anyone have any experience with their gear oils?

Thanks

No special additive since they do not have a Limited slip differential, Nissan does recomend a Synthetic fluid in the Rear ....

... I use standard Valvoline 80w-90 in the front and Valvoline synthetic 75w-90 in the rear ....

The Limited slip is an electronic brake activated system ...

Gotcha. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the help. I just placed an order for a couple quarts of the Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 and one quart of their 80W-90 for the front.

Thanks again.

How did that amsoil gear oil work out for you? Sorry to resurrect an old thread.

Check out this thread from when I did the same thing a few months ago. It should have everything you need in it.
