Went in for Airbag sensor recall and getting a new trans....

Postby Cooper993 » Wed Aug 12, 2009 3:42 pm

I finally got around to taking my PF in for the recall. I asked them to take a look at the trans because occasionally the truck would downshift when going down hill. Then when disabling OD, it would up-shift.

They call me back and tell me that the trans cooler is part of the main radiator and that there was coolant in my trans and trans fluid in my coolant.

So they're flushing the engine, replacing the radiator and the trans.

Good thing they caught it, warranty runs out next month. Truck had ~ 27K miles on it.

they said that was "usually normal", but my PF had never done that until a few weeks ago and it started to do it more often recently. That's what prompted me to have them look at it.

seems like the rad trans cooler is starting to fail on the path damaging the transmissions. gonna have to bypass the rad on mine to save my trans. :x

I didn't have a chance to find out. when I picked up the truck today there was a line of people and he just gave me the keys and said he still had to write it up and send me the paperwork. I wanted to get the truck back ASAP because I am leaving next week.

When I get back I'll check with him of it's an updated part.

So last week I got my truck back with a new trans, radiator etc. I went out of town so only drove it back from the dealer and left it in my garage.

This week I took it for a Home Depot run and the next day there's trans fluid dripping on the floor of my garage. I look under the truck and the whole bottom is covered with fluid and there's spray on the tailgate.

So I guess they didn't do a very good job. It goes back next week.

I'll find out then if they have an updated radiator part.
