Grounding wire attached to exhaust

Postby johnguti » Thu Aug 27, 2009 9:16 am

Can someone tell me what is the grounding wire attached to the rear right side of the exhaust for? My 08 Path S, came with it but after a few months it just fell probably due to being loose

ive been told it helps prevent rust by sending a small electrical charge through the metal to prevent teh rust from forming. i have also been told it has something to do with emissions. not sure if either of those are true jsut things that i have heard

Thanks for your information, but talking to some Nissan mechanics they told me that this piece of metal wire is for safety purposes. For example, just in case there is a major collision and the Pathy would roll over, the electricity would go to ground instantly preventing a short circuit and therefore fire of the vehicle.
