Battery Life Revisited...

Postby socal4x » Sat Oct 17, 2009 6:01 pm

Has anyone had to replace the factory battery at 37,000 -ish?????

I have had two no starts in the last few days, I can't think of what else it may be...jumps fine with a portable jumper...

Thinking of getting an Optima Red....have had those in all my other vehicles...

I had to replace mine a couple of weeks ago. I've had a few times over the past 6 months I've needed a jump, so I finally changed it out. Leaving the headlights on for maybe 5 minutes without the engine running killed it the last time so I figured it was time to get a new one...

Thanks...looks like I should probably replace it anyways, to be safe...can't go wrong with Optimas

Probably should check my fuses too -- thanks cruzstyle

Most auto parts stores will give you a free battery test in-vehicle if you can drive it in.

Do u have an aftermarket radio? My path started doing that after I swapped in an aftermarket dvd headunit in. If i didnt drive my car for more than a block for 3 or more weeks my path wouldnt start but could be easily jumped. After that I switched out the factory battery for a optima yellow top and it has been problem free for 6 months and counting now. I could leave my car weeks without starting it and it would start up fine again after the optima swap. IMO i think the factory battery is very weak and is not suited for our trucks.

Yes, I have a Pioneer AVIC with Navigation -- good thoughts that may be it.

I checked all my fuses, seems okay...

Battery appears to have been shot (per tester at Auto Zone)...I replaced it with a Yellow Top...so far, so good.

It was really weird because it happened all of a sudden. I was at the car wash, everything was fine, then when I went to start it and leave, it was dead. I though water had gotten in somewhere, but that didn't seem right since they hand wash everything, and driving in rain would likely penetrate more places...time will tell.

thanks all for your input/help. :D

Also, regarding battery weakness, I agree, especially with all the "power" ports we have...

Factory battery is only 550 cranking amps...I think the one I replaced it with is 750!

Yeap the optima yellow tops are 750cca, gonna see how it performs this winter but I dont expect any problems since optimas seem to be very reliable in our trucks.

I have the Pathy for 3 months now...no battery issues at all...sitting with radio on, lights on you name it no problems.
Then last week I was in Germany overnight, so as usual parked up in the multi story carpark at the airport...came back and the battery was as dead as a dodo!!! Didnt leave lights on or nothing.
Breakdown guy jumped started and everything has been fine since, starts every morning first time, no struggle....weird one!!
