Stolen spare!

Postby path26 » Wed Oct 21, 2009 8:02 pm

So some scumbag cut my tire carrier and stole my spare today right ou in the parking lot of my office building in the middle of the afternoon. I couldn't f'n believe this lowlife could have the nerve in the middle of the day but apparently it happened to another car around the same time.
Anyway, Nissan told me to replacethe tire wheel and the holder will be $600. Does that sound right?
Also any ideas how to prevent this? Like electrifying the chain!

WOW! that sux, cannot believe how much of a lowlife a person can be.

you should rig it up with a moustrap or a blade or something, give the thief a surprise next time.

Sounds like a rip off. For $300, you can get a Goodyear Duratrac or BF Goodrich AT/KO tire and wheel.

I'd head down to a local tire shop and see what they have.

Thanks for the ideas I will take a look around. I like the razor blade idea I wanted to find a way to hook up to the battery and zap the prick haha. I wonder if there is a way to cover the piece with a big metal plate or something so they can't just use wire cutters and drop it.

Could you not loop a bicycle lock through the rims and around something on the chassis?

Just be careful to ensure the lock is kept in the car for when you need it!

Might investigate this myself as the spare does seem very vulnerable.

Tire of any brand should be 160.00 in your vehicle size. I would check a wrecking yard for the tire and wheel and the cable mechanism, you should be able to get all for around 200-250.00. I hate losers who steal, this idiot is looking to sell this stuff to wreck yards for drug money.

They have a spare tire lock for the Frontier. I don't know if it will fit for the Pathfinder, however.

Thanks for the info I will have to look more into that wheel lock. There isnt much description do you know how it works?

On a brighter note. I worked out a deal with my body shop when they ordered the spare and I had them paint my wheels black like I was planning. I will post pics soon but it look sbetter than I had hoped.
