Postby lshin4482 » Fri Oct 30, 2009 3:07 am

hey everyone. new here. i just bought a 2010 pathfinder se today. loving it. my question is, i bought the 4x2 and not the 4x4. what are my limitations as far as going off road? i am not trying to do anything too serious but just the occasional off road if i need to. will i have problems getting stuck anywhere?

its hard to say what you will and wont be able to go through. its always situational. like already suggested, get good tires and dont get carried away

As long as you stay on moderate trails you should be fine. You've got good ground clearance and if your tires have good tread, it shouldn't be a problem. I've done a little over 50 miles on dirt roads with no issues.

Here are a few pics that show some of the roads.

It's raining and wet in these first two. Didn't slip at all.

thanks guys. i can't wait to take it out on a trip. i love how the truck drives so smooth. i noticed the gas recommended is premium. is that only recommended or does anyone put 89 0r 87?

I use 89 and no problems, some in this Forum use 87 with no problems, but I guess you can try both grades and see what works, if you use 87 and notice engine runs bad, pinging,etc.. just get a bottle of STP octane booster and dump it in tank. Good luck have fun.

2wd will do just fine w/ plain flat dirt roads, such as service roads, fire roads, shown in above posts. But, if the plain dirt roads are dry but very step, 4wd is likely to be required. But, if the plain dirt roads are wet and somewhat hilly...2wd will start to see some challenges. It is very difficult to describe what 2wd and 4wd can do in words. It is still not very easy to describe what 2wd and 4wd can do with pictures as they do not seem to do justice very well...especially incline/angle of hills.

I have 9,000+ miles on my '09; I have been using 87 w/o any pinging. My gas mileage is 18 ~ 19 w/ 30/70 (city/hwy). I will keep using 87 until pinging or something occurs.

I use 87 in around town because it burns right through anyways and premium when I go on long road trips.

gratz on the new Pathy. post some pics if you get a chance :)

you will be surprised what a good set of tires can do for a pathy in 2wd. just use your head and you will be fine.

i run 91 octane in mine and the engine loves it. i do a lot of highway driving for work so the mileage gain outweighs the cost imo. plus, i think the 91 octane makes the pathy smile
