Climate control quirkiness ?

Postby kev1n » Sun Nov 22, 2009 8:02 pm

I have a LE with the automatic climate control. What I have noticed is that the system skips from 85 to 90, no increments of 86,87,88 etc .

Is this normal operation or is something wrong with my system ?

normal to me. Lowest is 16, then jumps to 19 with .5 increments for Canadian models.

It's normal. You'll also notice it does the same thing on the other end of the range. Goes from 65 straight to 60 I believe.

I don't know, but what i do know is i've never seen one actually accurate.. I used to charge AC systems and would check the temp at the vents.. Some times they would be set at 65* and blowing 55* temps. My guess would be its more or less just a guide to get you ballpark temps.

This used to confuse me too, mainly because I noticed a huge diff. in vent temp. between summers and winters. In summer, 76 degrees kicks out cold air, while in winter a setting of 76 blows out hot air.

It's confusing, until you realize that the temp setting IS NOT the temperature of the air coming out, but instead the desired cabin temperature. GOTGOO's reply is a perfect example. By setting it to cool down to 65 degrees, the air coming out will have to be cooler then 65 (hence the 55 temperatures) to lower to to the desired setting. Once the cabin temp gets close to 65, you would notice that the vent temp. would get warmer (and the fan would slow down), as it only has to maintain the temp at that point.

My wife still hasn't realized how this works. If it gets too cold on her original setting, she always adjusts the fans (sending the system into manual mode), as opposed to simply upping the temperature a little. Instead, she ends up switching it up and down, up and down her whole trip. Annoys the hell out of me!

You beat me to it. That's why I can't stand my office during the summer. It can be 100 degrees out, but set the thermostat to 69 and out pumps frigid 50F air until the 69F is reached. I actually quite enjoy the thermostat settings on the PF-it works real well once the desired temp is reached.
