Wheel Spacers

Postby wht06pf » Thu May 06, 2010 11:37 am

Anyone running wheel spacers? I'm thinking about buying some if I decide to put a 2" lift of the Pathfinder. Just curious as to everyone's thought s and who you'd recommend to get them from.

Edit: Here's what I'm looking at: Wheels Spacers Adapters Dodge Dakota 6x4.5 98-03 4PCS

This is one thing I would not cheap out on, you will get what you pay for. WHen your talking about wheels falling off or studs snapping, bad things can happen. As long as you buy a good set and make sure they are properly installed using some blue loctite, they should be fine.

i'm be running the same thickness spacers. i got 1.5" spacers made from a single block of aircraft grade aluminum. i needed them for clearance with the new tires.

i installed mine today. i recommend hub centric spacers. what i did was cleaned the threads. used red loctite thread lockers on the studs. put the spacer on and hand tightened the nuts first. then used a torque wrench and tightened them to 45lbs in a crossing pattern, then 65lbs, then 80lbs, finally to 100lbs. then re checked all of them. i then did the same thing for the wheels except for the thread locker and when tightening i rotated the wheel. i hand tighten the top lug then turned the wheel till it was the bottom one. i did this until all the lug nuts where hand tight. i then lowered the wheels and followed the same torquing pattern i did for the spacer.

my .02 is if you get them, get name brand or -trusted- brands.

i got ping pong brand off ebay for my jeep wrangler. had them on for one day before 2 STUDS SHEARED OFF of the spacer itself! a 3rd came off when trying to take the rest of the lugs.

also check to see if the spacers change your lug nut thread size. those ebay ones i got did, which meant i couldn't use the wheel locks i originally had.

i ended up returning them for a refund and getting rims to achieve the proper backspacing.

that said, i'm not saying don't get spacers. i know plenty of people that are running them with no problems. just if you do, don't cheap out on them like i did.

also, when you bolt on the spacer to your existing hub, make sure and use at least blue loctite, if not the red. this will help make sure those inner bolts/lugs don't ever come off unless you're really wanting to get them off.

If you do, definitely go with adapters/spacers vs spacers with extended studs.

I don't know if I needed to change my gears but I did anyway.

I now use 325 65 18's vs the 295 65's. (33.1" vs 34.6"). Still seems fine, gets around and moves like it should even with the larger tires.

Went from 2.94 to 3.36. Don't think it was necessary with the 295's, but definitely with the 325's sliders, bumper and winch.

The Titan V8 is impressive.
