R51 Radiator/Transmission issue (class action)

Postby Fofiddy » Mon Jun 21, 2010 7:34 pm

Well as most of you know there are alot of Pathfinders that by luck of a manufaturers defect have had their Engine Coolant and ATF cross contaminat causing transmission issues. Long story short, crappy radiator cross contaminates ATF and Antifreeze, Pathfider starts to; shift hard, jutter , shimmy on accelleration, sound like a 18 wheeler....
Anyway outside of the $400 that some stealerships are asking for the coolant flush it's just too much to expect so many consumers to pick up the tab on a new tran. I noticed there is a group of ambulance chasers persuing this:
http://www.lieffcabraser.com/defects/pathfinder.php
and the information form:
http://www.lieffcabraser.com/contact/co ... finder.htm

Some folks have preemptively rerouted the ATF to prevent this, but for those that were too late to take action and hope to keep Nissan honest, Feel free to throw your name in there.

**this is not just a Pathfinder issue this also happens to the Xterra's and Frontiers with the 4.0l V6 coupled with the 5speed auto

every time i hear about this trans issue it really makes me wonder if i will ever buy another nissan vehicle. but it's good that they are getting sued. manufactures need to be reminded to stand behind the products they produced.

Courtesy Nissan lists PN 21400 for the radiator assembly for the following:

Armada
Frontier
Pathfinder (4.0 and 5.6)
Titan
X-Terra

***EDIT***

Further study of aftermarket websites show the following:

(Rock Auto)

Frontier, Pathy v6 and v8, and X-Terra take Spectra Premium CU2807.

Armada and Titan take Spectra Premium CU2691.

Not sure how to read the Courtesy diagrams, and they don't seem to give a PN for the actual core of the radiator.

Sorry for the confusion.

If I had the leak happen to me, I would immediately go here:

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/

File a complaint & forward the same thing on to Nissan NA corporate.
A class action is pretty pointless, IMO. With all the car mfrs on their toes right now, along with the government coming down on them pretty hard, I don't think it would take much to get the ball rolling on a recall of sorts. I did a quick search of the database for 07 Pathfinder coolant & similar problems, but I didn't find anything.
