2007 vs. 2008

Postby KCtrayn » Tue Jul 20, 2010 2:51 pm

Hello, new to the forum and looking to purchase a used pathfinder pretty soon. I have one quick question (hopefully).

If miles are equal are there any reasons I should go with either a 2007 or 2008 model? I've done some research and have not found any glaring differences besides the subtle change in front end apperance. I'm second guessing whether I overlooked something obvious. Before I pull the trigger I wanted to be absolutely certain that I should not be concerned more about one year vs. the other.

For instance, if you could get a 07 LE for the roughly the same price as a 08 SE, which would you choose?

Thanks!

Well, if you're wanting the trim level of the LE and all other things being equal, I'd go with the LE. That's likely what's driving the 07 LE to be comparable price with a one model year later SE model. If the SE trim fits what you're looking for, you could buy a year newer, but with the higher end trim of the LE, resale values will likely remain about the same given comparable mileage over the life of the two vehicles.

Personally, I'd probably buy the '07 LE, simply because I like the LE trim.

the DVD/NAV screen was introduced in 08 models.

Thanks for the replies.

So can I assume that if the 2008 that I'm looking at has the LCD screen, is also able to provide navigation? I'm reading some conflicting stuff about this. I want to make sure that if I get an 08 with the LCD that it is capable of navigation (and not just for use for the rear view camera and other operations).

Also, I have noticed that the fuel econonmy is a mile better on the 07's. Any reason for this? Or did Nissan just realize that their suv doesn't get 21 mpg on the highway...

Thanks again.

Having the screen does not mean it has navigation. The SE models received the larger screen for hvac/stereo/trip computer functions. Backup camera was then an option as well. It is not a touch screen.

I know on other brands, the EPA revised how the test is conducted so somewhere around 2008 some vehicles (Toyota and Honda were hit hard....) there were changes to the mpg ratings. There were no engine/drivetrain changes to explain the epa numbers. FWIW, I easily hit avg 21-22mpg on all highway trips running 70mph.
