Silly Question - License Plate Screws

Postby amr40509 » Mon Aug 09, 2010 6:03 am

Here is a new one:

When I bought my 2006 I installed the license plate using the two screws provided by the dealer/Nissan. Now 4.5 years later I need to change my plate...and can't get the #$&@ screw out of one side. Both have some rust on them, one side comes right now, BUT the other side seems to be turning the plastic sleeve inside of the tailgate rather then just unscrewing.

Any thoughts on how to get this sucker out?

I had the same problem. I ended up popping the panel off on the inside of the hatch so I could hold on to the spinning plastic sleeve. What a PITA.

Good to know there is access from the inside like that - I had thought of popping off the inside, but was worried that I would do all of that work only to find that I couldn't actually get where I needed to be.

when I first purchased my Pathy, I went to install the plates and the damn plastic oem nut spun... pissed me off, so I got lucky and removed it by drilling it out with a drill bit, Than I installed a square type you buy at the auto parts store and have no problem since, I have had the plate off around 4 times since. The OEM nut is a terrible design.
