Projector Foglight and HID Install

Postby ConstantNRG » Thu Aug 02, 2007 6:27 am

I finally got fed up with the crappy foglight hole cover and the "ebay" lights i got just didnt cut it, so i decided to retrofit a set of hella projectors into the openings. The hella projectors are only $50 a piece so its not that much of a step from the reflector style ones on ebay, but the performance of them is awesome.

STEP 1.
Turn off your phone, turn on some good music, grab a couple of beers

Step 2.
Jack the front of your truck, and remove both front wheels

Step 3.
Remove the 3 screws on the front most part of the fender well liner, and the two screw about a third of the way up, this should allow you enough room to fold the liner back to gain access to the area where the foglights are. Secure the liner with a wire tie to your spring or control arm, so its not flapping around in your face while your trying to work.

Step 4.
Remove the two push buttons from the fog light cover(one on top,one on side closest to middle of truck) and pop the cover off from the bumper.

Step 5.
Take the cover over to your work bench and using a utility knife/dremel/etc. remove the middle piece of the plastic cover leaving you the ring with the retaining clips.

Step 6.
Remount the plastic cover piece to the bumper and secure with epoxy

Step 7.
While holding projector housing in place, drive four screws through the mounting tabs in the projector housng into the remaining ring of the plastic cover. Be sure not to over tighten, yet just enough to hold housing in place.

Step 8.
If using HID's, mount ballast to bumper support(also good grounding spot), and run your relay to the battery, and your trigger wire to the center console, or wherever your switch may be.

Step 9.
Check all connections to the HID's and turn on. Lower jack to level truck, but be sure not to drop the truck on the front bumper, that is never a good thing. while the truck is level, align the projectors so that they are both even and at a proper ride height so as not to blind people.

Step 10.
Jack the truck back up, put the fender liners back on, wheels, and lower the jack. Now you have a couple more beers while you wait for it to get dark, then you go outside and enjoy your new projector foglights
