Matic-S not available in Canada

Postby disallow » Tue Aug 17, 2010 4:51 pm

WTH?!?! I asked for Matic-S today, and got a blank stare. They had Matic-D, Matic-K, and Matic-J, but have never sold Matic-S, or ever heard of it.

Nissan has obviously superceeded the Matic J for a reason. (at least here in the states) So I personally would not put the Matic J back in my vehicle.

I have some Matic S at home. I will see if it has a part # on it.

I could not get any from my dealer either. Reading what I have been know I guess I should have bought some amsoil instead of using J-Matic to refill my tranny.

Yeah, I'm defying the Nissan rulebook too, but I'm running Mobil 1 synthetic. I've had it in since the first change and have had no problems. It actually cleared up a hesitation that had developed towards the end of the original fluids life. It's easy to find, also.

I bought mine online at http://www.amsoil.com/ You can also track down dealers in your area to save on shipping costs.

After letting my drained trans fluid settle for a few days, I can see that its pretty dark, and it also has a bit of a burnt smell to it. Probably from towing my gargantuan trailer in high winds when the TC wouldn't lock up. I'm also by-passed, with no additional cooler other than the factory air/oil cooler.

I will be doing 3 things:

1. Install trans temp gauge.
2. Install additional cooler (based on the data I get from the gauge).
3. Do a complete drain and fill with Matic-S or other synthetic fluid.

I can get Mobil Delvac TES 295 Synthetic transmission oil from work for about $7/liter, or $26/US Gall.

Anyone see any problems using this?
