About to buy, some questions 08 v8?

Postby ekbeegl » Tue Oct 19, 2010 1:47 pm

Well I found a pristine '08 LE V8 4x4 with 31k on the odo. They are asking $18,500 for it which seems like steal from what I've seen in my area and online. plus they are going to throw in lifetime power train warranty and tires for life(it's a Nissan stealership)

Some quick questions, I'm sure they are repeats and I could find them all if I searched but at work till midnight, and going in early tomorrow to buy before work.

Real world gas mileage? What are most averaging? I drive 25miles one way on the highway, not much city driving, and not much traffic. I know it's not an econo car but could I manage about 16-18mpg? Dad had an 07 titan 2wd and averaged about that going 50miles each way-not sure if they are comparable, but figure the titan has a few lbs on the Patty. I probably only average about 10miles every two weeks in the city (yea I work a lot).

Reliability? Any major issues that I should know about/look for...I know the obvious, car fax and I always make them throw a used vehicle on a lift so I can inspect the underside (worked in a shop for a few years so can identify most major issues).

I keep seeing something about an oil/trans cooler bypass, what's that all about?

And lastly, throw out anything else I should know about these trucks...what you love, hate, have had to modify to make livable etc...

I was hung up on getting an xterra, but like that Pathfinders creature comforts a lil more, and the extra power, and space don't hurt either. I wont be doing much more than some light off roading...camping a few times, and have to visit out on some job sites that are accessible only by tractors, so not needing a mule of a vehicle. But nice to know it can get me most places. I need something reliable for all seasons, after last years insane winter, I knew I couldn't do without 4wd again, and being in-charge I have to be there come hell or 3ft snows...

Thanks in advance for any imput

Hope I can call myself an owner come tomorrow morning

I have an 08 4x4 SE V8 and I get 15-17 mpg depending on how heavy my right foot is.

Something's fishy here. That's basically $5,000 under AUCTION value for that vehicle. Why would they sell it for that price if they could easily get MORE at an auction? I would be very very suspicious.

I was recently offered $21,500 for my '08 SE V6 with 34k miles....and that was on an invoice deal on a new car so if anything it was a low-ball offer.

Paid $28,000 for an 08 LE V6 with GPS and DVD. 2wd with 34k miles and that was about par from my research here in Texas. $18.5k seems fishy to me. Clear title?

I've seen Toyota "buy back" vehicles from customers instead of taking them back under the lemon laws. I'm sure other manufactureres do this as well. Then they can re-sell them "as is" as a used car since no lemon law papers were ever filed on it.

Beware!

And carfax isn't fool-proof by any stretch. One of the PF's I shopped had a clean carfax and some nasty overpsray on fender, door, and hood.

I'm with the rest, I'd be careful. 18.5k seems fishy. Check for a branded title, flood damage. But if all checks out, I get around 17-18 mpgs and I drive mostly hiway miles,90%. I have around 28000 mi. with no issues, comfortable, fast and reliable. Good Luck

I was looking at possibly getting a 2006 Armada here in Canada. The guy was asking 19k. (Canadian).

This is about 2-3k lower than other similar vehicles up here. The vehicle was from Texas since about 2007, and he had been driving it since then, it has 113k kms (66k miles) on it, and seems to be in good shape.

Just can't convince the wife to take the plunge. That and it didn't come with the tow package.
