Philips X-treme Power

Postby deezx5 » Thu Jan 27, 2011 12:44 pm

Ordered a set of Philips X-treme Power 9007 from Amazon for $33 but they have a $10 mail in rebate expiring at the end of the month if anybody is interested. They arrive tomorrow so I will let you guys know how they look. The stock bulbs are starting to get dim and these have good reviews everywhere. I have Osram Nightbreakers in the car but they don't make them in the 9007/hb5 size.

You should notice a bit of difference. Of the halogens available for the Pathfinder, these were the best I used, and I went through something like 6 different pair from various mfrs.

NVSteve, how do these compare with SilverStar Ultra's? I currently have them and want something better, but don't want to go HID....yet.

Well, I noticed a difference when I installed them. The Silverstars are probably bottom of the barrel for the Pathfinder, and IMO, are far too overrated. When I installed the Xtremes, I took a drive around the block with no other cars & noticed an improvement. However, as time went on, I became fixated on the headlights of all the other cars around me, which ended up deflating my mental image of the Xtremes. Don't get me wrong, they do help & are a bit of an improvement, but they still don't put out enough light, IMO. I think I paid $26 for my last set of Xtremes, which is cheap enough to try without worrying about wasted money. One of the other sets of bulbs I tried were close to $70, and they didn't even last 1 year.

Got the X-treme Power on today and they look good, certainly brighter than the stock bulbs and with a better color. They do a better job of lighting up the road in front of the truck and they also project further than standard bulbs but not quite as far as the Nightbreakers on my car. I would like a slightly whiter bulb but these will certainly do the job for now.

Got my $10 rebate check over the weekend, no complaints on the headlights.

I agree, they're very nice at night with snow falling. Still need some extra up front, but they're better than stock. Got my check too.
