What is the speed limit for 4WD mode?

Postby Energata » Fri Jan 28, 2011 9:09 am

Since my 4WD doesn't disengage easily.....after coming out of some snowy roads, I got on the hwy, drove for about 2-3 miles and then took the off ramp. I didn't realize it at the time but I was in 4WD the whole time on the hwy, and I was doing about 80 mph (140 kph) for that short duration.

Would this in anyway hurt the diff/tranny etc?

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about it.

It says 62.5MPH in the manual, but like the other poster, I don't think its a big deal if you go over for short periods.

Is that a max speed or a max speed for shifting in/out of 4x4. My last truck said 60mph for shifting and 80mph for operating in 4x4. Never noticed any numbers on this rig.

Mine basically won't come out of 4x4 until you slow down and turn. So if I run 4x4 to help merge up a slippery on-ramp...I'm going to be in 4x4 until I get where I'm going. Or pull off and get back on. Annoying.

My 4x4 decal on the sun visor says not to shift in/out of 4wd when traveling over 80kph or 50mph.

62.5 mph is for engaging and disengaging according to the manual. there is no specified max but from personal experience i've gone around 85 and started to get some vibration.

Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it.

I just got back from taking the Pathy to the dealer for the 4wd issue, along with not blowing hot air AND water leaking from the clip where the passenger visor clips on (left clip).

ONE WORD OF ADVICE AND WARNING TO ALL:

Do NOT buy a 2005 Pathfinder. 2006 and above is more or less fine, but 2005's are plagued (and I mean ****** plagued!) by 1st generation issues and problems. BIG TIME.

I talk my last post back...the manual states

Speeds over 62.5 MPH (100 km/h) in 4H
is not recommended
