Factory Bose Subwoofer substitute

Postby hamncheese » Fri Feb 11, 2011 9:45 pm

I just tackled the task of removing the rear subwoofer in my factory Bose system on my Pathfinder 2007. I've seen the pics on this site posted by another member, which was a big help. Here's the problem, the factory Bose speaker did measure 6.5 but the metal framing of the Bose subwoofer is squared where most if not all speakers are round.

Any suggestions on where I might find a speaker where it would match the factory Bose square shape? For now, I just cut a pair of speakers to fit in the Bose box. It's a temporary fix until I can get some help with this.

I only changed one of the Bose speakers which was damaged/blown.

I'm not looking to replace the factory Bose box, just looking to replace my blown Bose subwoofer.

BTW, I've searched all over this site before posting and didn't find any useful info for my problem.

Thanks and great site.

http://www.kicker.com/Solo-Baric_L7 is available in 8"

http://www.courtesyparts.com/28170m-box ... cPath=6833& OEM

JL & Kicker make 6.5" round Subs that would probably work with minimal alterations.

Hope this info can help you to find a good solution.

Thanks but as suspected, I'll have to alter the speaker to make it fit in the Bose box.

Curious, I think my driver's side 6x9 may be blown. It still plays but there is noticeable distortion on some low notes. Which speaker did you replace? Was the Bose amp attached? Where did you buy your replacement speaker? Thanks!

I purchased a kenwood KFC 1662S at Best Buy. I know it wasn't the smartest thing to get since it's really not a subwoofer, but I wasn't about to go back to Best Buy and exchange it for something else. I only replaced one of the speakers and you know what, it doesn't sound that bad. Besides, it's only a subwoofer, I personally would like to replace the subwoofers with a three way speaker anyway. At some point in the future I'll replace it with the correct type of speaker (subwoofer).

Here is the link to the speaker I purchased.

Keep in mind, that the Bose woofer is a different shape so you'll have to use tin snips (which is what I used) to cut the Kenwood speakers to make it fit.

Hope this helps[/url]

Try partsexpress dot com for replacement speakers. They sound great and are cheap in price. I replaced some in my old car and were much better than factory. No I don't work there.

Was looking at the speaker I replaced and found that the plastic center piece came off. Looks like all I have to do is glue it back on. Is that possible? I'll post a picture later to show what I'm talking about if it helps.
