Just Drained Transfer Case - drained out 2qts

Postby Elite130 » Fri Mar 04, 2011 11:27 am

I just drained my transfercase on my 2007 Pathfinder SE 4x4. It has 75,000 miles on it.

I measured the amount of fluid that came out and it was just at 2qts. My understanding is that the transfer case takes 3-1/8th quarts. I just want to confirm I fill with 3 qts of fluid, not the 2 that I pulled out?

Also, the fluid was very dard with some metal shavings on the drain plug. I think everything is ok, I just waited too long to change the fluid.

instructions for changing transfer case fluid and verifying the fluid level are on page MA-25 in the maintenance section of the service manual (3rd "sticky" at the top of this forum) :)

Well...I'm confused now. I must have the TX15B transfer case. It only took just over 2 qts of fluid.

Does this sound right?

small debris and black muck on the drain plus (possibly "hairy" looking) normal...Just wipe it off, thats why the magnets there. Just fill until it starts to spill out and you're done. Especially if it was cold, some adheres to all the surfaces inside.
