Help me please on my 08 Pathfinder SE 4.0L???????!!!!!!!

Postby islandcreationlv » Wed Mar 09, 2011 11:38 pm

Hi i bought a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4.0L. I just have a quick question. Is it normal when your driving around 40mph w/ overdrive on and when you release the gas pedal and press it again a clunk sounds comes from the back and you can feel it too. It only happens around 40-45 mph. When i'm on the freeway it doesn't do it. If I turn off the over drive and release the gas and press again around 40mph it doesn't do it. I was wondering if this is normal or should i bring it in. Please help me...

Will the u joint cause a clunk towards the rear n jerk @ the same time just for a split second when accceleration is released and pressed @ 40mph? Its weird how it only does it when overdrive is on, why is that? I'm sure I still have the factory warranty will that be covered I only have 35000miles.

If you are under warranty then take it in and let them have a look. Anyway u-joints are easy work to do.

Ok I just found out only the powertrain is still under warranty and I did a little research and found a service bouletin with the exact symptoms but it was caused by the eccm and it needs to be reprogrammed and its common... has anyone came up on this same problem and resolved it by reprogramming?

it's a reprogram. It will only lessen it. I often get stuck driving in exactly that range...

So you've done it and it still does it? So what's actually causing it????

Yup. performed the reprogram on my own truck and many others and result is always the same, reduced but not gone.

If you switch overdrive off, it'll never happen, but everytime you shut off your truck and restart O/D will be on again. I got into the habit of swithcing it off as I pulled out of park, but I just kinda learned to drive around it. I always want to shake my fist at it when I do get stuck in that speed/rpm range though.

It did go from hard clunk to light bump.....so still a worthwhile repair.

Same things happens on mine when I'm in slow/go traffic (which seems is always the case here in DC). Right around the 40mph mark it will manifest those symptoms...as soon as I notice it I take it out of OD and it's fine. Annoying, though. Unfortunately my 08 has 85k miles on it so I don't think the reprogram is still warrantied.

Wow I guess its normal hmm yah it is annoying I drive around it too. When I'm on the regular streets I turn off o/d but one I get on the freeway I usually turn it back on.. so this can't be fixed? It won't mess up my truck more would it?

Yeah, mine does the same thing and has since 0 miles. Nissan at the time told me it was normal and when it was out of warranty is when I found out about the reprogramming. Never had it done thought and still running strong.
