Rear brake pads - question

Postby openspaces » Sat Mar 12, 2011 12:50 pm

Going to change the rear (and front) pads. Just opened the pack for the rears and one of the pads has a protruding metal clip from the back side. Is this something that is needed for the parking brake?

Don't want to pull it all apart to find out my pads are wrong.

No I think what you are describing is the 'squealer'. It comes into contact with your rotor when your pads have worn to certain point. It sqeals "Change me!". Usually moreso in reverse.

My father-in-law snaps them off, as he thinks you can get another 10-20k out of the pads at this point. I usually change them.

Stupid question on rear brakes -

I am going to try to change out my rear brakes on my 2008 Pathy LE. The dealership can take their $425 quote and shove it.

I want to go completely OEM on this. I was hoping someone could just detail out everything I need in order to replace the pads and rotars. Is it just as simple as ordering those two parts or is there anything else I should know?

Followup to my question it definitely was the squeeller tab. I was wondering if there should've been 2. One for each side.

As for the total brake job. Ordering the rotors and pads should be all you need. After pulling my wheels the rears were fine so I only replaced the front pads only. Rotors were fine.
