What gear to tow in; 2011 Pathy?

Postby marc515 » Fri May 20, 2011 4:15 am

OK, this may seem like a silly question, but here goes:

We just got a 2011 Pathy Silver, and plan to tow a camper as sonn as we get one.

The Silver is equipped with a 5 speed Auto, and there's no overdrive switch. Don't see anything in the manual about what gear to put it in while towing, so I would presure "D" will do the trick.

So what gear do we tow in, or do we just stay in automatic, and let the tranny do it's thing?

Thank you

Yes keep it in D for general driving. You may want to lock it in to a lower gear if you are doing some hill climbing to save the box hunting up and down. Obvioulsy change up before the engine pops through the bonnet / hood.

Agree, as long is it's not hunting for the right gear just leave it in D. I've towed quite a bit with mine and out on the highway it generally downshifts and stick in that gear until you top the hill. If it doesn't, just slap the shifter over to manual and pick your gear.

Always best to leave it in D. Then when you come to a hill I would lower the gear to keep the tranny from having to seach for a gear. Will end up being better for your transmission that it won't keep shifting. You will probably want to keep it in the lower gear to go back down too, so your not riding your brakes and then have brake fade.

Leave it in D with the OD OFF. Shift to 3rd on uphill grades.
