Catalytic Converter-2006 Pathfinder

Postby JohnG » Thu May 26, 2011 1:21 pm

While at the dealership to have the fuel sending unit replaced, the service advisor said we found a second code, the B2 Catalytic Converter. Thinking this was an electronic glitch, the tech eliminated the code and said if you have a real problem, the check engine soon light will come on again within 100 miles. It did not return for 4,200 miles. Now it's on again. Is this a bad Cat or something else?

It could possibly be another glitch. I would reset the code and see how soon the check engine light comes on. Also watch the fuel you put in. I know i've had situations before where a bad tank of fuel will set off the check engine light and as soon as I put in another tank of gas, it will clear up the code and be good to go. The last resort could be an acutal faulty CAT. How many miles do you have?

My 2005 Needed the Passenger side cat replaced at 50k miles and the drivers side cat at 70k miles.

If search into the forum you'll see that it's common for the cats to go bad on these trucks.

The vehicle has 110K miles, the plugs were replaced and the code erased. Let's see how long it goes this time.

That's horrible that the cats need replaced that early. My 99 Jeep has just over 100k and still on the same exhaust.

ask them to check it with "data monitor", if they know what they're doing, they should know what to look for. Also, you can run the SRT for the cat and get the computer to check it without waiting forever
