Well, after numerous unresolved issues with my r51, i finally was able to pawn it off onto someone else today. Getting a real SUV. An American one. See you suckers in the scrapyard.

With only 9 posts on this forum, does not look like he/she tried to get much help.

Good luck with your new vehicle.

Real American SUV... That's probably built in Canada or Mexico! Been the "American" SUV route... I'm pretty sure they're not much better ;)

there are basically 2 "real suv's" made by American auto makers. (real defined as an suv with frame rails)

the expedition and the tahoe. everything else is now a unibody or built on a car chassis. so i am trying to figure out how he went from the r51 to one of those and feels good about it? the expedition is a tank with reliability of a yugo. and the tahoe is basically 15 year old technology with some mexican built electronics. yikes

Don't forget about the Suburban. I actually spend a lot of time in Suburbans...we have four here at work, all LTZ models and they're damn nice. We beat the crap out of them (driving through mine's regularly) and they hold up great. I just put 1,000 miles on a 2009 model last week that had 90k on the clock. Great highway cruiser even at 85-90mph I was running. The only downside is the passing speeds aren't anywhere near the Pathfinder and I do a ton of passing on my commute. Otherwise I'd probably be driving one daily.

We had an Expedition XL awhile back to try out and frankly I thought it was a dud. It really drove like a bus. Took it out to the mines with some people on a tour and took it back to the dealer with the air-suspension warning light glowing and a busted mud-guard.

But I can't complain about the PF either. It has held up pretty good through 50k miles and I flog on it as well. If it starts giving me issues later in life...I may think differently. But it seems the '05/'06 models have a lot more problems so hopefully I don't have any issues.

Suburban is a Tahoe, as is an Escalade.

Sort of. I can appreciate the differences and clearly distinguish them as separate vehicles. Tahoe/Escalade/Yukon are in one basket Suburban/Yukon XL/Escalade ESV in another. Suburban/Yukon 2500 could be another given the chassis/drivetrain differences. Either way...there's a lot to pick from if you actually need utility. Just nothing in the mid-size category. Given the PF is going down the grocery-getter path next year....won't be much to pick from in that class either.

4Runner. Body on frame, available locker, plus it's a Toyota.
