P0161 and P0183 Codes

Postby dagall » Sun Aug 07, 2011 12:13 pm

Have had the 2007 Path for about 8 months, it has 34000 miles on it and just checked at the local auto parts store and they read these codes. Said they were fuel temp sensors.
Maybe you guys can help me out. I would think these are two different issues since I am getting two different codes. What are they and where are they located?
Thanks.

I did, but not a lot of answers, just a photo of the O2 sensor. Was hoping someone has had some experience with these. I know the O2 sensor is driver side rear, but don't know a lot of info on the other, which is a sensor in the fuel tank. Looking to avoid going to the dealer for part numbers also.

Here is some various info I located…

code P0161. bank2 driver's side rear O2 sensor
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0161 It basically means the PCM detected either an excessive current draw, or an open or short in the circuit powering the oxygen sensor's heater circuit. This is in reference to the Heated Oxygen Sensor (2) located rear of catalytic converter (Bank 2).

http://engine-codes.com/p0183_honda.html
P0183 HONDA Description
The fuel tank temperature sensor is used to detect the fuel temperature inside the fuel tank. The sensor modifies a voltage signal from the ECM. The modified signal returns to the ECM as the fuel temperature input. The sensor uses a thermistor which is sensitive to the change in temperature. The electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases as temperature increases..

This site has the complete list of codes:
http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread ... ight=P0183

P0161 02 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
P0183 Fuel Temperature Sensor A Circuit High Input

You can find the manual that covers the R51 PF in the “Stick y” portion on this here forum page. (We should give a thumbs up to the admin)
Go to: Section EC (Engine Control) page 272 gives this testing procedure for this P0183 code:
“Fuel tank temperature sensor circuit high input
An excessively high voltage from the sensor is sent to ECM.
Possible causes: Harness or connectors (The sensor circuit is open or shorted.)
Or Fuel tank temperature sensor”

Section#IDX gives the Alphabetical Listings.
I have a tuff time with the serv manual, but once you begin to learn the "logic" of an Asian engineer, you'll be OK.

Hope this info helps until one of the mechanics can respond…
