Battery Life

Postby deezx5 » Thu Sep 15, 2011 1:57 pm

Dead battery 2.5 yrs old 30K miles, no fancy electronics or lighting installed. Is this normal for Nissan? I know batteries in the South don't last as long due to heat but I'm used to getting about 4 years out of a battery.

Check the battery for it's build date. It could have been made prior to your pathfinder. Also from my expierence OEM batteries don't seem to last as long as an aftermarket battery.

mine is getting close to 3. Last winter with the crazzy -20 and long -5deg F we had my battery let me down twice. I used to keep the cars out side but now I fixed up my garage and installed new doors they will be inside. Dont know if that will make a difference or not but I figure it will keep the wind out. (wind Chill in Chicago is crazzy)

Dang I'm really surprised about this, but I guess they save $ by using cheap batteries. Went with the dealer battery since it was the best price to convenience ratio. $70 prorated

This summer we had 85 days with temps at 100+ and they indicated that have been selling a lot of batteries lately.

I noticed that the replacement battery seems to be a better battery than the factory installed. It has a 2 year full replacement and 5 or 6 years prorated. Not a really bad deal for $70 I just wasn't planning to replace a battery so soon.

Battery has died twice

Postby 56nomad56 » Fri Oct 07, 2011 9:56 pm

No crank twice in the last month, thankfully I have a portable jumper for emergencies.

The thing is, the car was bought used just over a year ago (it's an '08) and just after we brought it home we couldn't get it started, so CarMax put in a new battery. So...the battery should be just over a year old. We don't have temperature extremes here in So Cal.

We did take it to Utah last summer and went through some big puddles at an amusing rate of speed, there's dried muddy water all over in the engine compartment. Could I have a short somewhere that's draining the battery?

this problem is usually more basic than suspected:
loose and/or corroded cable connections/terminals?
both of my trucks got new cable ends because the (-) cable "loop"-type clamps never tightened to where they couldn't be rotated by hand on the battery post
fluid levels in cells?
check all, and load test battery.......
