2005 serpentine belt play

Postby martyf250 » Fri Sep 16, 2011 4:52 pm

been getting a squeel and think it may be the belt. I had the tensioner replaced a few years back. when i push on the belt it has quite a bit of playin it as in it is easily moved along with the tensioner moving up and down. is this normal?

There should be a little play but if there is excessive play, I'd look into replacing your belt tensioner again. What's the belt look like? Cracks underneath? If so, i'd replace that first.

There is a TSB and updated parts for this. Nissan won't pay, but do make sure the new parts are put on, they keep the belt tighter.

not very scientific, but pushing down quite hard on the very uppermost portion of the belt deflects it downward about 1 inch.
the tensioner does not budge during this "push", nor does it move if i try to move it by hand.
hope this helps........

sounds really weak
i just went out & checked both of mine again, and couldn't budge either of them by pushing downwards directly on the belt where it contacts the tensioner pulley
they will only move by pulling down on them with a 3/8" ratchet in the square hole at the middle of the tensioner pulley roller

very interesting...yea mine moves quite a bit....i had the OEm replaced way back when with the " new tensioner" while it was still under warranty. Do you think Nissan would pay for this seeing how they know about the problem and there still seems to be one? i am out of warranty.

couldn't hurt to ask
if you have the repair order receipt from the warranty repair, be sure to bring it with you..........
