2008 GVWR's

Postby Gray » Tue Feb 12, 2008 10:57 am

I noticed that the 'Gross Vehicle Weight Rating' - GVWR's on the US built 4.0L 2008 4x4 models have been increased from the 6000 lbs of previous years to 6113 lbs. 2wd's for 2008 are up to 6000 lbs from the previous years 5800 lbs GVWR. Just wondering if it's due to a different way of calculating GVWR or actual component changes and improvements to get more payload capacity.

According to this South African Nissan 08 PF spec sheet for both the 4.0L gasoline and 2.5L diesel's the GVWR /PTW (Permissible total weight) is 3000 kgs / 6600 pounds, so maybe they get an upgraded unit as I've read that the SA dealerships also offer vehicle armoring packages;

I don't know why I didn't look at this before but the 08V8's GVWR is 6500 lbs /2948 kgs. Assuming everything else is the same and that the GVWR rating increase is just from heavier front struts /springs and heavier rear springs and shocks thats a fairly good improvement. I test drove an 08V8 a couple of months ago and it did have a nice cornering effect, kind of felt more like a truck than a car imo.
