Pathfinder R51 Carbon Fiber?

Postby k1s240z » Sat Dec 03, 2011 6:24 pm

Well finally picked my 11 pathfinder. I was looking to possibly create some carbon fiber pieces for it this winter. Now my question is, is there a demand for this, or any suggestions on what would like to be seen.

I think you're the first to mention carbon fiber for Pathfinders.

carbon fiber hood scoop might look cool, right above the air cleaner. But then, it's not a racecar.

I be always liked the look of carbon fiber. Bur clearly its nonexistent for the pathfinder, bout tine someone did something bout it.

Unless you're thinking about replacing the interior trim with CF type pieces, not sure if making parts to actually reduce the weight of the truck is worth while.

Why bother with this stuff? There is no gain aside from appearance on this heavy rig. it wont make it much lighter in order to go any faster. In that case you can do vinyl wrap for parts you want to make look like CF.
But again, we all have our preferences. I think if there is no functional benefit of modding something - its waste of money.

IMHO.

if it doesn't make it go faster or stop quicker or corner on two wheels, why bother?

I still think it would make it lighter. And lighter weight would make a differenc. For example . Typical oem hood 50lbs, typical cf. hood 9lbs. That alone is a savings of 41lbs. Plus the fact there no carbon fiver parts made for style pathfinder really intrigues me to be one of the first. Also thinking flared fenders, lighter and shooting for more of an off road look. I feel there would be enough of a benefit in trying it. Anyone else see it that way?

Are considering making a batch of hoods or fenders or whatever if there is enough interest? Or are you just kicking around the idea of making some one-off carbon fiber parts for your truck? There's a lot of work to create molds and lay up the carbon fiber. Do you have experience working with carbon fiber? Just some things to consider. Now if you're talking about overlaying some interior parts with carbon fiber that shouldn't be too hard.

I guess your best way of marketing this CF idea is the fact that it would make it easier to craw; but then again, once again I've never heard of CF applications to OR vehicles.
