2008 Pathfinder Rim and Tire Upgrade? or aftermark Leather

Postby tntitan » Tue Dec 20, 2011 11:25 am

Hey All,

Just picked up an 08 Pathfinder 4.0 SE 4WD with 18K miles on it. This forum really helped me make my decision.

Anyways, Im hoping to win a couple of my fantasy football leagues this week and am deciding on throwing the winnings towards after market leather or new wheels and tires. I like the cloth seats but have a kid on the way. I hear they can really put a beating on the cloth seats. I also love the look of black wheels and more aggressive tires. I'm torn because I want both but dont have deep pockets. I'll probably end up with both but just trying to decide which to do first.

Please forgive me if this question is really dense. I'm not very technical and am getting up to speed.

Right now, if I were to do a wheel and tire upgrade the most straight forward thing to do is find a 17" Rim and tire Size of 265/65-17. (Without messing up the speedometer or MPG too much)

However, I also know that some 08 V8 Pathy's come with a 18" Rims and tire size of 265/60-18.

2 Questions
1. Would you prefer to have leather installed or update your wheels and tires?

2. Could I throw on 18" Rims with a tire size of 265/60-18 without throwing off my speedometer or deal with rubbing?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I would go wheels. The 265/60-18 is almost identical in size to the 265/65-17 so no worries there. Depending on what your goal is....looks/performance/etc. you might as well go with a 19"...or maybe more if you really want to bling it up.

One of the biggest reasons I bought the SE was because I could get all the options except leather. I just don't care for it. It does hold up a little better as far as spills and kid goop, but there's more care involved to keep it looking good for a long time. The cloth seats seem to be pretty good against stains...I have the light tan interior and so far any stains have come right out with some cleaner.

I also like to put everything into perspective of value. The rim/tire package could be sold if you ever wanted (or sell the OEM rims/tires and get some money back). The cloth covers won't have much demand and the aftermarket leather won't add much to resale value. In some cases aftermarket stuff is a deduct if it's not perfect/better than OEM.

Cool. Thanks Skinny2. I was leaning this direction just needed a little nudge. Kid isnt due here until the Spring, so I have time for the leather. 18" wheels seems to be the sweet spot for me. I know a lot of you guys on here really get off the road a lot and use those AT tires for what they're actually designed for. For me the appeal of more aggressive tires is more aesthetics while knowing I could handle some off road opportunities.

I'm looking at the Firestone Destination AT or the Silent Armors.

Thanks Again!

I have an 08 V8 with the LE 18inch wheels. The tires that I liked were not offered in the size I needed with my 18s. I ended up buying a set of Frontier 17s and mounted the tires I wanted, more choices. However the silent armors are very nice tires. Had them on my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Loved them.

That's a good point. Decisions...Decisions.

I may end up looking for a set of used OEM Frontier/Pathfinder rims and paint them black like some that I've seen here. I just didnt want to chance ruining the only set of OEM rims I owned.

Where are you located? I'm trying to sell my 18s. If you were any where close to ID it would be a good deal for both of us.

Im in MD. If I was closer would definitely be interested. My guess is shipping would be pretty expensive.

I am running Yokahoma's A/T's on 18 inch LE rims, 275/60/18 on my 2006 SE. No issues whatsoever. Looks great as well, If I could figure out how to attach a picture, I would. If you pm me an email address, I would be happy to mail you some.

I also have my original rims laying around. You can come pick them up if you like and go with the paint plan. I will make you a good deal, they are useless to me now. I live in Maryland as well....Frederick
