2008 V8 LE with high miles

Postby stugry » Fri Jan 13, 2012 8:52 am

Hi all, im new to this forum as im currently looking to buy my first path. This truck has 95K miles and according to the salesman has never had any work done to thr tranny. Iv read about the tranny issues so what can i do to assure that the tranny is finein this vehicle? Also, its listed at 17000 and change. Does that seem like a reasonable asking price?

Thanks in adavance.

The issue is not with the transmission itself but with the transmission cooler that is located inside the radiator. The barrier between the transmission fluid and coolant inside the radiator is prone to leaking. The coolant system operates at a higher pressure than the transmission fluid cooler system which causes coolant to enter the transmission. Not good. A quick check of the transmission fluid will let you know if coolant has mixed with transmission fluid. The transmission fluid should be red or in this case dark red since the fluid has not been changed.

The price seems ok. I paid 16k for my 05 two years ago and it had only 40k miles on it. But mine is v6.

thanks deermjd. Unfortunately i drove 2hrs to check the vehicle out on saturday and discovered that it had been wrecked when traded in and the dealership did a TERRIBLE job fixing it so it was obvious right away. Oh well, would have been nice if the salesman just fessed up to it before i wasted a day though.

For anyone looking beware of a white 2008 LE V8 at infinity of columbus in ohio. It appeared to be in decent mechanical shape but it has been wrecked and repaired poorly.

My search continues.

Thanks again

Hope you find what you're looking for. At least you didn't get hosed on this one.

What part of Ohio do you live? I'm about an hour east of Columbus. I was surprised when shopping how many had been wrecked, especially the rental returns (base "S" models). Are you specifically looking for V8/LE? I can watch around, I'm in/out of Columbus a couple days a week.

Im actually in northern KY. Ideally id like to find a black or silver 2008 LE V8 4x4 but id be open to a V6 and im not set on the year but newer seems to be more than i want to spend and older ones have too many miles(usually).

I actually found one at kings nissan in mason ohio thats not ideal but might work. I have one question though. The interior is brick red leather. Is that a factory option?

Thanks for the help

There was a dark-brown/reddish/orange color leather available, I believe it was called Russet.

If you're working on a tight budget, I'd concentrate on lower mileage with less features. Two main reason: features rarely add much resale after you cross 100k+ miles (soon). So you're going to feel heavy depreciation. Also, tight budget and potential high mileage repairs = tighter budget.

Unless you tow ALOT, go for the V6. 275ish horsepower VS 310 really isn't worth it IMO. Especially considering how much more the V8 weighs, almost offsets the extra power (V8 is over 220LBS heavier)
